Register of Deeds

The Register of Deeds Office is responsible for maintaining and securing the land records of the county.  The Register of Deeds Office is a separate office in counties that have more than 20,000 inhabitants.

The duties include preserving of old land records and entering in the numerical indexes and the computers all newly record land transactions.  Records that are recorded are, warranty deeds, mortgages, deeds of trust, plats and any other documents that affect a specific piece of land in the county.

This office routinely deals with complex legal descriptions and requires accuracy and detail.  The office updates ownership on the cadastral maps. The office records have been scanned and entered into the computer from 1997 to present.  The numerical indexes have been scanned through April, 2014.

Currently the records are available on the internet, the website is: The site allows all users to view the document’s general information online for free.  If the record  you pull up has been scanned you will see a graphic indicating the PDF image is available for viewing.

The Register of Deeds Office is a public office.  In addition to the Public, this office is utilized by Real Estate Companies, Title and Abstract Companies, Banks, Law Firms, Appraisers and genealogists.

In order to preserve our old records, any documents that are in bound books will need to be copied by digital camera or a personal scanner.
