The duties of the Veterans Service Officer are:
- Assist veterans in gathering necessary documentation in support of their VA disability claims, and assist in appealing of denied claims. Educate veterans on the navigation through the VA system to ensure the veteran receive the benefits they are entitled to.
- Assist veterans spouses and/or family members to obtain benefits after veteran has passed away this may include, but not limited to month of death benefit, burial benefits, DIC compensation. We also help the family with getting military headstones or grave markers.
- Provide information and resources on healthcare, education and financial assistance that is available to our veterans.
- Advocate for the veterans’ rights and needs. This includes representing veterans and attend hearings on appeals for their VA disability claims.
- Work in the county communities to raise awareness about services available to veterans within the county.
- Required to maintain accreditation with various organizations, and go through regular training to ensure all veterans of the county are provided with the most up to date information on changes in veterans services and benefits.
